The Tired Man Chair: when you buy an armchair, the stool is free until the end of 2024
01/11/2024
Flemming Lassen designed The Tired Man for the Copenhagen Carpenters’ Guild Exhibition in 1935. The characteristically voluminous armchair was reissued in 2014 and has since become an icon of Danish design. With numerous awards for its enveloping comfort and timeless shape, it has attracted the admiration of generations of design lovers. One of a few original pieces was sold for a record sum at auction in Denmark in 2014, proving the enduring relevance of the Danish designer’s work.
Lassen wanted the armchair to feel “as warm and safe as a polar bear cub in its mother’s arms”. Therefore, the deep seat, inviting backrest and curved armrests were carefully upholstered in sheepskin to realize his vision. Today, The Tired Man is once again offered in this luxurious material as well as a selection of high-quality upholstery fabrics. Natural or dark stained oak legs and front brass castors for easy movement complete the design, while a matching stool provides additional comfort.
Until the end of 2024, you will receive a free The Tired Man Ottoman when you buy a Tired Man Lounge Chair.
Flemming Lassen
Flemming Lassen (1902-1984), considered a key figure in the introduction of functionalism in Denmark, was an architect and designer known for his precise craftsmanship and naïve expression. Lassen was strongly inspired by the architect Mies van der Rohe and the principles of the Bauhaus movement – a ‘less is more’ approach that focused on form, function and innovative materials while taking human needs into account. His original and distinctive designs with timeless silhouettes have endured to this day.
