Accompanied by a numbered watercolor and the first edition of "Lost Danish Treasure"
A recently rediscovered watercolor by Finn Juhl provided the inspiration for the 75th anniversary limited edition of the Chieftain Chair.
The rediscovered watercolor shows Finn Juhl’s intention that the wooden frame of the Chieftain Chair should be made of the exotic Brazilian wood Imbuya.
However, as this wood can no longer be imported to Denmark, the House of Finn Juhl decided to produce a limited edition of the chair in smoked oak.
This choice not only corresponds to the original aesthetic that Finn Juhl had in mind, but also reflects the color expression of the chair.
Maintaining authenticity is of the utmost importance when Finn Juhl chooses to produce a limited edition of an iconic chair.
The chairs are made by skilled craftsmen in Denmark and undergo a traditional treatment process using FSC-certified oak wood.
This process, which uses no dyes, causes a natural color change by reacting with the wood’s tannic acid, resulting in a deep, rich hue.
The chair is then treated with several applications of oil, culminating in a smooth, matt finish.

Buyers of this limited edition will also receive
- a numbered print of the watercolor by Finn Juhl, which has not yet been published, and
- the inaugural edition of “Lost Danish Treasure”, a book that provides new insights into the design history of the chair and its central role in Danish design history.
The Anniversary Edition with a smoked oak frame offers a range of leather options from the House of Finn Juhl collection, allowing for customization.
