Spring is here
08/04/2026
It's April and yet it feels as if spring is starting all over again. The weather does what it wants. A few days almost summery, then cool again. And right in between these moments when the sun suddenly gains strength - not just bright, but also warm - every time, you're immediately drawn outside - not planned, not prepared. Just outside.
What really works outdoors now
This is precisely why what works outdoors keeps changing. Or perhaps rather: what really makes sense in each moment and thus extends the outdoor season.
Furniture that doesn’t need to be “prepared” first, but works without much effort. Without layers of cushions that need to be arranged, moved, or covered depending on whether they’re in use or not. Instead, pieces that simply exist and can remain.
Series such as Fritz Hansen Pelagus or the Grythyttan A2 embody this quality precisely. They are comfortable without being soft. Clear in shape, but not harsh. And above all, they work even when they are not staged.
When outdoor spaces become visible
Perhaps this matters more today than it used to. Many terraces and balconies are visible, part of the house, part of everyday life. You look at them even when you're not using them and you don't want to see empty structures. No „skeletons“ that only become something when cushions are added.
Collections such as Antibes from Röshults show how this can be done differently. They look complete, even without additions. Calm, natural, almost casually beautiful.
Cooking outside becomes part of everyday life
At the same time, the way these spaces are used is shifting. Cooking outside is no longer just for the height of summer. The grill is lit earlier and put away later - if at all. With solutions such as the Röshults Open Kitchen or the Röshults Essential Kitchen, this part of the house becomes less dependent on the season. Less event, more everyday life.
The boundary between indoors and outdoors
And this is precisely where the desire for flexibility grows. The boundary between indoors and outdoors is becoming increasingly blurred. Series such as Embrace Outdoor from Carl Hansen & Søn are a good example of this. Originally intended for indoor use, they have evolved to include the outdoors. Modular, adaptable, with materials that can remain in place, even when the weather changes.
This idea is complemented by designs from &Tradition, Montana Furniture's Panton One or other outdoor collections from Fritz Hansen, which naturally extend the living room outside.
Perhaps that is the real shift
That we no longer wait for the perfect summer, but instead make the most of the moments in between. A few warm hours in April, an unexpectedly mild evening in May.
And furniture that is made for just that.
