Nordic Talk - Trends: inspiration or illusion?

New season, new colors, new shapes - and that feeling again: „I need something new.“ Trends are fun and provide inspiration, of course. But they also tempt us to always chase after others instead of finding ourselves.

In this issue of our Nordic Talks we talk about the difference between inspiration and illusion - and why personality always remains timeless.

Trendy, but not you?

F: Does the world really need new trends every year?

A: Honestly? No. But they're a great excuse to reorganize or treat yourself to something new. It's like the fashion circus: nobody must but the temptation is great. However, many people only realize late on that they are actually losing sight of themselves.

The main thing is "right"?

F: Why does everyone still follow the trends?

A: Because it's easier. Trends are convenient - they tell you what's „right“ so you don't have to think for yourself.

But there's a price to pay: at some point you live like everyone else. And then it feels pretty empty.

Trends as impetus

F: Aren't trends also an opportunity?

A: Of course! They can give us ideas that we would never have come up with on our own. The difference is whether we use the trend for ourselves - or the trend exploits us.

Modern = personality

F: What do you say to a customer who just wants to know: „What's modern now?“

A: I say: „What do you care about that?“ And then we talk about who he actually is and what is important to him. Being modern is personal.

Addicted to new things

F: What is the problem with trend consumption?

A: We already know this: it makes us addicted to new things, but not happier. We are always searching, always buying - but never at home with ourselves. So we fill our lives with objects, but not with meaning.

More you, less trend

F: And what would be the better alternative?

A: Less trend, more you. Think about how you want to live and buy what suits you. Well-made things will be even cheaper - and feel a hundred times better.

Trends - beautiful, dangerous

Trends bring a breath of fresh air, but those who follow them blindly quickly lose themselves. Sometimes, on the other hand, trends are a good catalyst: suddenly a piece of furniture looks completely different in a new color or design.

But we don't just work with the latest - we often deliberately suggest special designs to our customers. Because someone actually prefers „calm“ instead of „flowery“, or „chrome“ instead of „brass“. Standard can be found online - personality with us.
