String Furniture. The Swedish shelving system that has been demonstrating since 1949 just how easy, flexible, and timeless organization can be.
Made for change.
String Furniture is inextricably linked to the String Shelving Unit, designed in 1949 by Nils Strinning and Kajsa Strinning. The shelving system was originally created for a competition seeking an affordable bookshelf that was easy to transport and simple to assemble. The solution was as precise as it was radical: delicate wire ladders, freely combinable shelves, and a design that creates an astonishing number of possibilities with just a few elements.
This sense of lightness continues to define String to this day. The system appears open, clean, and understated, yet is exceptionally functional in everyday life. Whether as a wall shelf in the living room, a bookshelf in the home office, storage in the entryway, or a flexible solution for workspaces, String adapts to rooms without dominating them.
With additions such as String Pocket, String+, Works, and contemporary designs by Anna von Schewen and Björn Dahlström, the concept is constantly being refined. The basic idea remains the same: as little material as possible, as much freedom as possible.
We carry String Furniture because Swedish design feels particularly natural here. Functional, accessible, and visually striking. A modular shelving system that intelligently organizes spaces and remains surprisingly relevant even after more than 70 years.
